Logica maps Victoria - again and again
Logica, a leading IT and business services provider, today announced that the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has renewed its spatial data management contract for a further three year period, following a highly competitive bid process. Logica estimates the value of this contract to be in excess of $5 million.
Logica was selected to continue to manage and maintain Victoria’s address and property data, known as Vicmap Land Administration Themes (VLAT), which is used across a variety of government, civil and private services. This includes all emergency services, state and local government, private security firms, utility infrastructure and digital mapping organisations. Logica has continuously held this important service contract since 1995.
Effective management of its spatial information enables the state to provide accurate information regarding land, including details on properties, addresses, crown land, local infrastructure, and administrative boundaries, such as local government areas, postcodes, and townships.
“It is vital that the Victorian State Government has the most reliable data as this information is relied upon by local and national businesses, councils, and the general public,” said Paul Sargeant, Government Industry Director, Logica Australia. “Effective management of this data means that Victorian communities can trust in services that rely on maps, whether it’s needing a quick response from emergency services or simply looking up a street address.”
Logica’s Enterprise Asset Management Group has supported this project for the last 15 years and has developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of Victorian DSE’s spatial data system.
“Logica has an extensive track record in managing and maintaining spatial datasets for organisations in the government and utilities sectors. The Victorian DSE needed a partner that could be relied upon to ensure it always has the highest quality data. Logica was selected for its specialist expertise and long-term experience in providing IT, Geographical Spatial Systems (GIS), system design and support, spatial datasets, and data content.”
“Most importantly, winning this contract is testament to Logica’s long-term collaborative approach with our clients. We’ve been working with the Victorian DSE now for 15 years and still continue deliver to the high standard of excellence they have come to expect.”
Data is collected from the authoritative sources, including Land Registry, Local Government Authorities, VicRoads and consulting surveyors. Logica is responsible for managing, maintaining, securely storing and supplying this data to DSE, where it is then supplied to users.
