Logica brings on professional hacker

22 June 2010

Logica Australia, a leading IT and business services provider, today announced it has appointed professional hacker, Jody Melbourne, as a Senior Security Consultant. Melbourne will work closely with Logica’s security team to identify potential weaknesses in clients’ ICT infrastructures and provide solutions for securing organisations and safeguarding people and assets.

Melbourne’s primary role will be to provide services to protect organisations against potential cyber threats using penetration testing and vulnerability assessments. With stringent testing for sensitive networks, applications and critical infrastructure, Logica’s clients in energy & utilities, transport, and the public sector can benefit from new opportunities such as cloud computing, outsourcing, and mobile applications as well as rationalise access to systems to reduce costs and fraud.

“Our clients have vast and varied security needs,” said Colin Holgate, CEO Asia Pacific. “These include the need to minimise financial loss due to fraud, ensure vital services run without disruption from physical or electronic crime, and have full security situational awareness whilst reducing costs and being more efficient.”

“In a time when information has become a valuable commodity, many are concerned about protecting their business against cybercrime. Providing best practice security services means taking a strategic approach to address the changing threats and developing and implementing proven technology and process solutions.”

Melbourne’s experience in cyber security started at aged 15 and was headhunted by IT Audit & Consulting to provide professional security services for both large and small corporations looking for a comprehensive assessment of their ICT infrastructures. He spent the next 13 years providing real-world security expertise to governments and large corporations throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Melbourne is enthusiastic about his latest role. “Logica’s clients offer services that directly impact the everyday lives of all Australians. Logica works closely with many of these organisations to ensure their systems are fully protected as any potential weaknesses could not only result in a competitive disadvantage, but put public safety and national security at risk.”

“Logica has built itself a solid reputation as a reliable partner across its core industry sectors and I look forward to working with the team to continue this success,” added Melbourne.

Melbourne has also worked closely with local communities to drive awareness around key security issues including business protection, cyberbullying, social networking and “ethical hacking”.  He has taught ethical hacking and delivered security training courses to thousands of students world-wide. In recent years he has specialised in Web 2.0 social network security and electronic corporate espionage.

Prior to joining Logica, Melbourne was a senior security consultant for specialist firms including AnswerZ, IT Audit & Consulting and CQR Consulting, where he developed the Disconnect Cyberbullying awareness program presented at numerous high schools and colleges across the country.
