Australian clients support Logica's fresh approach to cloud
Logica’s Global CTO, David King, visited Australia this week to brief local clients on its Future IT strategy– a new approach to cloud computing that is gaining substantial benefits for early adopters throughout Europe. This offers companies a range of services to help them navigate, integrate and manage cloud services and new technologies within their overall IT landscape.
“Cloud computing is the natural evolution for IT, however it is only going to be one element of Future IT,” said David King, Global CTO, Logica. “Many have not yet understood the transformation that will take place as we evolve to a new era of IT, which will create a complex, hybrid environment made up of private clouds, software-as-a-service, and legacy systems.”
“Australian clients can now take advantage of lessons learnt from both public and private enterprises, in Europe who are seeing the benefits of our Future IT approach. We remove the complexity to build the right IT environment, leveraging and building cloud services with both an existing and new partner model,” Said King.
“The demand for providing solutions that have a cloud option for clients in Europe has grown considerably in the last 12 months. We are seeing around 20% of our clients request cloud as part of a solution option in their tender briefs and in some cases this is as high as 100%. These solutions are now included in our Logica Cloud Store,” King.
Logica received positive feedback on its new approach to cloud computing at a series of interactive sessions with key clients in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra last week. These sessions were used to gain insight into the specific needs of Logica’s local clients in the energy and utilities, transport and logistics, and public sectors, as the company will tailor its offerings for the Australian market.
“We learnt that most of our local clients are already using cloud services in various parts of their business, which the IT department can often be the last to know about. However, they all still had major concerns about the security, reliability and data sovereignty in relation to cloud services. Our clients were excited by our approach to Future IT as this will provide the support they need to develop the right mix of cloud and legacy systems - where security is a given and complexity is simplified and managed,” added King.
“Like traditional legacy systems, businesses will gain maximum value from their IT by integrating services to ensure data can be easily shared across all traditional systems and cloud services. A key part of our role in supporting our clients with Future IT will be in providing ‘service integration’ support. In essence, the traditional systems integrator will be replaced by a service integrator such as Logica,” said King.
- Logica’s Cloud Store, a set of solutions, from computing and software to business processes and collaboration tools, delivered as a flexible pay-per-use service, includes the following: Consulting services will help clients determine what elements of their IT landscape they should migrate to the cloud, including business case development, security and governance
- Design and build services around collaboration, communication, content, as well as business applications on demand. These include integration services across cloud and enterprise assets to support clients in their transition to Future IT
- Managed IT-as-a-service, providing unified service management , with a single point of contact and one bill for all cloud and legacy systems
Logica has both the technical and industry expertise to provide a unique service for Future IT and cloud computing. Its in-depth understanding of the application environment in three core industries, public sector, energy & utilities, and transport and logistics, means that Logica is better positioned to help clients quickly identify where they can take advantage of the cloud.
Logica also has a strong security practice will provide the expertise to ensure security is baked in from inception and also has a long history in managing large data migration, systems integration and infrastructure development projects to help clients successfully integrate new cloud services with existing infrastructure.
“Over the next five years we will see a dramatic increase in the number of companies that move their business applications, storage and infrastructure into the cloud to take advantage of the flexibility and agility it offers. Enterprise IT will see a major shift away from technical management to service management, as software, storage and infrastructure is offered as a ‘ready to go service’. Our continued growth relies on our ability to evolve with the industry and adapt our service portfolio to add value for our clients around these services.”
Feedback from Logica’s client workshops is now being used to tailor Logica’s local Future IT strategy and propositions to reflect specific market demands in areas including smart grids, “government in a box”, and SCADA.
